July 2009 Two Young members of the East Kilbride Pipe band, Eilidh Moyes with Daibhidh Moyes receiving a cheque from East Kilbride Rotary Club's new president Ray Porrelli at the Clubs ''Fairy Nuff'' wishing well where the money had been gathered from a very generous public.
9th October 2009 East Kilbride Rotary Club President Ray Porrelli was delighted to be able to hand over a
cheque for £500 from the Wishing Well at the Heritage Park to John McEnaney, the Head Teacher, and six first year pupils from Sanderson High School, to assist them with the acquisition of their new school bus. The £30,000
specially equipped bus was mainly funded by the Variety Club and Wiseman Dairies, but the school had to raise £5000 themselves and the Rotary donation took them over halfway toward their target.
Expressing his thanks to the East Kilbride Rotarians John said he was "appalled at the senseless damage to
the Wishing Well" which occurred on the 5th October. A regular donor to the Well, on behalf of his grandchildren,
John "could not understand why the thieves committed such a heartless crime as it only served to reduce the amount of money available for organisations, such as his own, which served the needs of the people of East Kilbride".
However he was heartened to hear that the Rotary Club intended to rebuild the Well and make a repetition of this theft impossible. The Well has suffered four attacks in two years, and each time has been rebuilt to eliminate the possibility of a similar attack. Although this involved the Club in expenditure, which diverted funds from charitable work, it has forced the thieves to use more extreme measures each time. As the Well had already raised £2750 for charity, the members are determined to resolve this problem, and will use their expertise and resources to repair and strengthen it in order that the people of East Kilbride could continue making wishes and donating to local charities.
Left we have a cheque presentation to 14 year old Pamela Clark by President Ray Porrelli on the 9th November from money gathered from our "Fairy Nuff" wishing well. The cheque for £100 was to help finance her trip to St Petersburg this week where she will compete in the World Trampoline Championships in the 13-14 years age group. Pamela is current British Champion in her age group and was 7th in the last World Championships in Quebec, two years ago.
She is one of three EK girls going to Russia with their coach Olivia Sorbie. Pamela attends Calderglen H S.
Our Wishing Well under the direct control of Fairy Nuff is still producing the goods to enable the Rotary Club to disperse funding toward groups in the town. On the 28th of January 2010 President Ray Porrelli is seen handing over a much needed cheque to Annette Robb from Kidz Play. This is a group who run after school activities for children in Greenhills area of the town.
We gave £200 to Pine Crescent in January; £120 to West Kirk Guides to assist with a "100 years of guiding" event; and - in April. £100 to the Master Hutton Academy to assist junior members with cost of representing Scotland in European Championships
